Quran

Our Quran teachers have Ijazah in Quran and Tajweed from highly respected Scholars. Your child will learn to read Quran with correct pronunciation of the Arabic letters and following the rules of Quran recitation (Tajwid). Your child will be placed according to 3 different ability levels from Absolute Beginner (Qaida) to Able Reader. There is also the opportunity for those children who wish to pursue memorisation of Quran to do so under the tutelage of Ustadh Hafiz Dawud, one of our Quran teachers (please speak to course organisers).

Arabic

Your child will be placed according to their current level of Arabic language in one of our three levels. He or she will follow a modified version of our unique and successful curriculum developed for Lady Nafisa School. The Arabic course has been developed and structured especially for children in order to optimise the child’s progress in both Formal Spoken and Classical Quranic Arabic. An outline of the course is as follows:

  1. 1. Stage 1. Absolute beginners level – introduction to Arabic script, learning to read and write the Arabic alphabet. Learning to read and write simple words in Arabic script.
  2. 2. Stage 2. Introduction to basic vocabulary and sentence structures in Arabic. The child will progress through the Medina Arabic Reader series Book 1 – 5. This series of books has been specially selected for children due to being colourful, illustrated, clearly formatted, and reasonably
  3. 3. Stage 3. Comprehensive introduction to Arabic Grammar and Etymology. At this stage students will consolidate their learning of Arabic so far by learning and memorising the fundamental structures of Arabic grammar and etymology (word formation). They will work through two workbooks developed by WLSIS especially for English speaking students studying Arabic.
  4. 4. Stage 4. Pupils will progress to more advanced Arabic, particularly focussing on the Holy Quran. They will work through the textbook, MELS Access to Quranic Arabic, as well as using online vocabulary building resources once again focussing on Quranic vocabulary.
  5. 5. Stage 5: Pupils will progress to advanced selected readings in Arabic literature and comprehension. These will include selections from Quran, Hadith and Jahily Poetry. Pupils will continue to have regular practice of grammar and training in formal grammatical analysis of Arabic sentences. Pupils will continue to expand their vocabulary base.

A pupil will only progress to the next Stage if they have successfully passed the Written Assessment for their current Stage. Completion of all 5 Stages from beginning to end will take 6 years provided pupils attend regularly and make satisfactory progress. Pupils who successfully complete to the end of Stage 5 will:

  • be able to read, write and understand Formal Spoken Arabic.
  • be able to hold a conversation in Arabic on common themes
  • be trained to use a dictionary according to Arabic root letters
  • be able to provide a formal and accurate grammatical analysis of any given text
